Yacolt second grade students enjoy a fun-filled morning of literacy with PAL and the Clark County sheriffs
Nov. 29, 2022
Yacolt Primary second grade students participated in a much-anticipated literacy event on Nov. 22nd. There were three different stations for this event. The first thing students did was gather and listen to the officers talk about general safety with officers, like when it’s ok to call 911 for help.
Students sat down in the library to listen to Detective Bethany Lau read out loud the book, “Llamas destroy the world” by Jonathan Stutzman during the second part of the literacy event.
After the short story was read the students got to pick out a brand new book of their choice; all donated by the local police dept.
The student’s faces lit up even brighter than the police car lights flashing outside during the third and final part of the literacy event–touring the sheriff vehicles. Some students even got to try on the sheriff’s hat, because we learned that you’re not a real sheriff unless you wear the hat!
Thank you to Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Police Activities League of Southwest Washington (PAL) for their support in our students and community!
